Environmental Impacts of Oil & Gas
1. In August 2015 Dr. Alex Gershenson and Ben Toscher and I released a report for the Center for Biological Diversity and the Friends of the Earth that conducted a life cycle assessment of all the federal fossil fuels on public lands and waters to estimate the total greenhouse gas emissions potential. Read the report here.
2. In spring 2014 we started research on water resource vulnerability and air pollution from oil and gas extraction in the San Joaquin Valley, and Monterey Shale. A seed grant from the Cal State University Water Resource & Policy Initiative supported preliminary work on water resource vulnerability and the water footprint of oil.
3. From 2012 to 2014 with the support of a $40,000 Grant from the Switzer Foundation, I worked with collaborators at Downstream Strategies in West Virginia to study the water footprint and water use reporting from Marcellus Shale development. The project is part of EARTHWORKS Oil and Gas Accountability Project. Our report can be found here: http://bit.ly/MarcellusWaterUse The webinar presenting the results is here.
